Ohio Native Americans (Grade 4)
From the Mound-builders like the Adena, Fort Ancient and Hopewell, to more contemporary nations, Ohio’s earliest settlers were Native Americans. “Ohio,” “Cuyahoga” and “Erie,” are all derived from native words. Battles were fought on Ohio soil, many great chiefs and leaders emerged, and the impact of Native American culture is still evident today.
